Dr. Richard J. Horwat, D.M.D.

Dr. Horwat earned his degree in dentistry from the University of Pittsburgh, School of Dental Medicine (SDM) in 2004. After receiving his DMD, he practiced in the Annapolis, Maryland area, focusing on general and esthetic dentistry for six years. He then went back to the University of Pittsburgh (SDM) and completed his post-doctoral training in endodontics and received his specialty license. Concurrent with his residency in Pittsburgh, he provided endodontic care voluntarily at the VA (veterans) Hospital and he was also awarded a certificate in recognition for providing care to underprivileged communities (children) in the inner city.
Dr. Horwat is passionate about endodontics and he is empathetic to his patients’ concerns. He prides himself as a lifelong student, staying current with endodontic literature and its evolving philosophy, and practices under the most modern developments so that he can provide his patients with the highest quality care. He incorporates a surgical operating microscope with every case, and he utilizes digital office technology.
His research regarding genetic influence on endodontic healing has been published in the Journal of Endodontics (JOE), Feb 2012, and he has lectured his research at various forums. Currently, he is a proud member of the American Association of Endodontics (AAE); the American Dental Association (ADA); the Tennessee Dental Association (TDA), Nashville Dental Society; and various local dental study clubs. He also donates and provides care for the Interfaith community.
Dr. Horwat is the proud father of two wonderful children. In his leisure time, he enjoys playing the drums and guitar, listening to live music, watching football, and also appreciates outdoor activities with family and friends.
